On Monday, Pizza Hut named Chequan Lewis as its Chief Operations Officer. He becomes part of an executive team that has dramatically changed over the past year.
Lewis joined the company in 2016 as Senior Counsel after four years as an associate at Baker Botts.
In 2018, he was promoted to Senior Director for the restaurant's Express business. In August 2020, he was named Pizza Hut's first Chief Equity Officer before becoming COO.
Lewis was a 2019 Minority Business Leader Awards honoree for the Dallas Business Journal. At the time, he said, happenstance brought him to Pizza Hut.
"I was looking for an opportunity to better utilize my business and legal skills, so I listened to a call from a headhunter about a lawyer job in a field I'd never even touched," he said. "In the end, a great opportunity to grow at and with a great company led me here. I just so happen to really dig the industry too."
Plano-based Pizza Hut is part of Kentucky-based restaurant group Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) and has made several executive changes in the past year:
